International Women’s day – AusIMM

Our Principal Consultant, Margaret O’Malley, attended the International Women’s Day lunch hosted by hashtag#AusIMM in Brisbane, celebrating the remarkable women shaping the mining industry.
The 𝗸𝗲𝘆𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿🗣️ , 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀, delivered an inspiring and deeply engaging speech, which Margaret said was one of the best she’s heard 😁.
Anna is a retired Australian track cyclist 🚴 and one of the 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗢𝗹𝘆𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗮𝗻𝘀🥇, she shared powerful insights, drawing on her upbringing in a mining family in Central Queensland and her understanding of the challenges women in the sector continue to face.
While progress is being made, equality and workplace conditions for women in mining still have a long way to go. Statistics shared on the day were confronting, with 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟮 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗯𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 as common issues, and 𝟮 𝗶𝗻 𝟱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝘅𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻.
